
How to actually get your bathroom warm (without wasting power)
Let’s be honest: there is nothing worse than stepping out of a hot shower into a bathroom that feels like a walk-in freezer. Most people think the solution is just to buy the biggest, most powerful heater they can find. But that’s not really how it works. The trick is picking a lamp that actually fits your space. We use short-wave infrared because it doesn’t bother trying to heat up all the air in the room—it just beams the heat directly onto you. It’s an instant feeling of warmth. Picking your wattage If you’ve just got a tiny powder room, a single 250W to 400W lamp will usually do the trick and take that bite out of the air. But for those big master bathrooms? You’re going to need a bit more muscle. I’d suggest a setup of three or four 600W units. Here’s the thing: don’t go overboard. If you put a massive heater in a tiny closet of a bathroom, you’ll bake the fixture and burn out the lamp way too fast. On the flip side, if you go too low, the lamp just runs and runs, trying to reach a temperature it can’t hit. That’s just throwing money away on your electric bill. The nitty-gritty stuff We build these with quartz glass and halogen filaments. Why? Because they heat up almost instantly. No waiting around. We also use R7s or Sk15 connectors, so when a filament eventually gives out, you can just pop a new one in without needing a degree in electrical engineering. Also, we coat the quartz. It stops that blinding, “staring-into-the-sun” glare, but keeps all the heat. A few things to watch out for Keep an eye on your ceilings. If your lamp is hanging at 2.2 meters, it’s going to feel a lot toastier than if it’s mounted at 3 meters. The higher you go, the more wattage you need to make up for the distance. And one last tip: check your wiring. A four-lamp array pulls a decent amount of current. Make sure your breakers can handle the load, otherwise, you’ll be spending your morning resetting the power box instead of enjoying your coffee.
