
Getting Your Heat Curve Right on Sidel Matrix and Blomax Systems
Here is the problem when you swap out OEM infrared lamps in a Sidel Matrix or a SIG Blomax: the temperature curve loves to shift. If the wattage is off or the spectral output drifts even a little, you’re in trouble. Your PET preforms either don’t get hot enough—leaving you with ugly stretch marks—or they overheat, and suddenly you’ve got that cloudy “pearlescence” ruining your bottles. It’s a headache. That’s why we built our replacement lamps to be a true drop-in. We wanted them to mirror the factory specs exactly so you don’t have to spend your afternoon tweaking settings. It’s about the power, not just the size. We don’t just make sure the tube fits the slot. We match the electrical load. See, on these machines, the voltage and wattage have to be spot on. If they aren’t, your PID controllers start fighting the hardware. We spec our filaments to hit the same heat density as the originals. This means the infrared radiation sinks into the PET wall at the exact same rate you’re used to. The nitty-gritty stuff. We use high-purity quartz glass. Why? Because these things run high-intensity cycles, and cheap glass burns out way too fast. Plus, we kept the connector footprints identical to the Sidel originals. You can just wire them up. No modifying lamp holders, no “making it work.” We also obsess over the halogen cycle to keep the filament centered. If that filament sags, you get hot spots. And hot spots mean bad bottles. A quick reality check. When the parameters match 1:1, your heating profiles stay stable. It’s a relief. But a word of advice: these high-output lamps put a lot of stress on your cooling fans. If your vents are choked with dust, even the best lamp in the world will overheat the oven housing. Keep your airflow clean. It’ll save your quartz envelope and keep the machine humming. The goal here is to take the guesswork out of the process. You pop the lamp in, run the profile you already have, and your bottles come out looking perfect. Simple as that.
