
Can you actually speed up an old Sidel Combi SF300 just by swapping the lamps?
Short answer: Yes. But there’s a catch. It all comes down to how the heat hits the plastic and whether your wavelength is actually doing its job.
The real deal with SF300 heating
The SF300 uses short-wave infrared to get those PET preforms ready for blowing. When your lamps start to dim or get patchy, you start seeing those annoying thin spots in your bottle walls. It’s a headache. We build our lamps to fit the original Sidel footprint and electrical load perfectly. By using a high-wattage halogen filament, the preform hits the right temperature much faster. That means you can push the cycle speed a bit harder without worrying about the material ending up in the wrong place.
No fancy rewiring needed
We use a specific coating on the quartz glass. Why? Because it pushes the heat into the PET wall instead of just scorching the surface. These usually come with R7s or SK15 connectors, so the fit is snug. The best part is that they’re total drop-in replacements. You don’t have to tear apart your oven or mess with the wiring. You just pull the old tubes out, plug these in, and you’re back in business.
A few warnings from the shop floor
Here’s the thing: more heat means more bottles, but it isn’t free. When you bump up the output with higher-powered lamps, your cooling fans have to sweat a bit more. If your vents are clogged or your fans are tired, you might overheat the oven housing or fry your sockets. It’s worth a quick check before you start. And please, check your voltage. If your 400V system is jumpy, it’ll kill any halogen tube you put in there, no matter who made it. Just make sure your wattage matches your power supply so you aren’t replacing bulbs every two weeks.
