Stop Replacing Your SIG Blomax Lamps Every Other Week
If you’re constantly swapping out burnt-out tubes on your SIG Blomax lines, you know exactly how frustrating it is. It’s a pain. It kills your momentum. Usually, it comes down to two things: mechanical stress and thermal shock. If you’re replacing lamps every few weeks, the ones you’re using just aren’t built for the actual chaos of your production floor—the vibrations, the heat spikes, the constant cycling. We got tired of seeing that happen, so we built a reinforced replacement that actually holds up. What’s actually happening inside the tube? Most standard quartz tubes give up the ghost at the pinch seal or the contact point. It’s the weakest link. We’ve toughened up the glass envelope and tweaked the filament tension specifically for the SIG oven footprint. We also messed with the tungsten grain structure. Why? Because it stops the filament from snapping when you’re powering them up and down rapidly. It just lasts longer. The technical side of things These are drop-in replacements. You don’t have to rewire your whole system or fight with your PID controllers—everything matches your OEM wattage and voltage. It just works. Now, here is the trade-off. High-wattage shortwave lamps are great because they get your PET preforms to blowing temperature in seconds. That’s how you keep your cycle times fast. But all that heat has to go somewhere. If your oven’s forced-air cooling is clogged with dust and debris, the tubes will overheat. Period. No amount of reinforcement can save a lamp if the fans aren’t breathing. Getting them installed (and keeping them alive) We use precision-fit connectors because loose fits are the enemy. When a connection is loose, you get arcing, and arcing burns your end caps. When you’re wiring these in, make sure the fit is snug. You want to avoid those localized hotspots. And one last tip: keep the quartz clean. If PET residue builds up on the glass, it creates “hot spots” that can crack the tube. These lamps can take a beating, but they still appreciate a clean environment.
