Getting Heat Where It Actually Matters: PET Preforms
If you’re running a SIPA SFR 12 or a Husky HyPET, you know the struggle. You’re moving fast—really fast—and you’ve only got a tiny window of time to get that preform to the right temperature. The problem is usually the same: the outside of the plastic gets scorched, but the center is still cold. It’s frustrating. You want the heat to soak through the wall, not just bounce off the surface. The trick is in the light. Most standard lamps rely too much on short-wave radiation. That stuff just hits the surface and stays there, which is how you end up with burnt spots. We do things differently. By tweaking the quartz and the halogen gas fill, we shift the wavelength. Basically, we’ve tuned the energy to dive deeper into the PET. Instead of a surface burn, you get a steady, uniform heat that works from the inside out. No headaches during install. These are drop-in replacements. We didn’t want you spending your weekend rewiring an oven, so we matched the OEM footprint and electrical load exactly. We also beefed up the connectors (R7s or SK15, depending on your setup). High-frequency cycling is brutal on hardware, and reinforced connectors mean you don’t have to worry about arcing. One heads-up, though. We push the wattage high to keep your throughput where it needs to be. That generates a lot of heat. If your cooling fans are clogged with dust, the electrodes can soak up too much heat and the lamps will burn out early. Keep those vents clean. When do you actually need these? You’ll know it’s time for a switch when you start seeing “cold spots” in your finished bottles. Or, if you’ve found yourself slowing down the entire machine just to get the preform soft enough to blow, you’re losing money. Our lamps let you crank the speed back up without sacrificing quality. We build them to take a beating in 24/7 plants, focusing on electrode stability so they don’t just pop the second you ramp up the voltage. It just works. Simple as that.
